NOTE: When installing software, NEVER install any toolbars. They are more of an inconvenience than anything and often come with spyware/adware.

AVG Antivirus AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition – AVG has been one of my personal favorites for quite a while. AVG is one of the leading software and does an excellent job of updating their virus definitions and detecting the latest viruses. It also leaves a very small footprint on your computer so you wont have to sacrifice performance for protection.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 – Kaspersky is another good antivirsus program that is very beneficial to your computer. If AVG, for some reason, does not fit your needs then you should try Kaspersky. They have a free 30-Day trial, after that you will need to purchase it to continue protection. Kaspersky will run around $60 and it will protect up to 3 different PC’s and you will have to renew it yearly.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware – Malwarebytes or MBAM works differently than an anti-virus program. MBAM will pick up all the different infections like viruses, trojans, rouges, adware, spyware, rootkits etc. This is a must have for any system to go along side of your anti-virus software. The free version of this will not run in memory, meaning that this software only works when you manually run this program. I recommend you buying the full version so the detection will run live. If you do not purchase the full version at least run this once a week manually.

Internet Browsers

Spread Firefox Affiliate Button Firefox – Firefox has been a great alternative to Internet Explorer and the main reasons why is because of the security, reliability and page load times. Also there are great add-ons for Photos, Music & Videos, Feeds, News & Blogging, Social Networking and much more. Firefox is the second most used browser on the net so support and features will be more wide spread.
Opera – Opera has been named the webs fastest browser. One of the things I like about it the most is the integration of its own email client. This can be very useful if you have more than one email account that you want to check and the setup is very intuitive. The design is very clean as well and you have a lot more feature ready to go from the time you download it with many more that you can get from their widget menu.
Google Chrome – Chrome is one of the newest browsers to come out developed by google. Chrome was created to compete with the other browsers, improving on overall performance and security. One of the things that it does better than the others is it automatically separates the tabs into individual system process for better performance and security. You can have one tab open with your bank information and a second tab open just randomly surfing the net and one tab will not influence the other. This is something that Internet Explorer and Firefox does not do.
